What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Becht/Givens Service Experts in Louisville always talks about how our team of experts are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it really mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization is owned, operated, developed, and supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be certified by NATE. The certification is discretionary and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being certified through NATE.

It’s important to Becht/Givens Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure technicians meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification assessments validate real-world working knowledge of HVACR systems for technicians. The exams are knowledge-based assessments that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Becht/Givens Service Experts focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only particular areas applicable to our technicians. NATE assessment candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
