Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your air conditioning unit around the clock to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your AC service technician to visit your home and complete your yearly ac maintenance.

In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are a few other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a qualified technician do that, but you can clean up the ground around your A/C to get rid of sticks and debris that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the system and trim back any overgrown bushes or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Keeping the airway clear can help keep your system running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Becht/Givens Service Experts will replace your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your seasonal tune-up as part of your scheduled A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s suggested that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of you and your loved ones and the efficiency of your A/C system, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular A/C system service. Note that a clogged filter could even damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Hanging blackout drapes or window shades can help keep your home cooler and avoid the sun from heating up your home. This may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t spend daylight savings checking the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors, now it the perfect time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is working properly so you don’t end up calling your air conditioning repair technician because your system isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your energy bills.

An annual air conditioner tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your cooling bills. Call Becht/Givens Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioner is prepared to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and ask about our spring specials on A/C system tune-ups.
