How to Avoid Expensive AC Repairs

August 18, 2015

When you think about the ‘Dog Days of Summer’ in Louisville, chances are that you might find yourself fantasizing about a perfectly chilled home to arrive to when you walk in the door from work. Of course for some homeowners, the unfortunate reality is that they arrive home with a busted air conditioner and now must deal with an AC repair. So what can you do to get through those seemingly endless, sweltering days without maxing out your air conditioner?

  1. Decrease use of appliances that create heat. Of course you can’t completely stop using your oven and stove, but being mindful of their uses can help more than you would think. Avoid using heat-generating appliances during the warmest parts of the day as your air conditioner will most likely already be working hard to keep your home cool.

  2. Keep your blinds and shades closed. Windows can let in a lot of heat if your window coverings aren’t utilized, and considering the temperatures in Louisville, your home can warm up very quickly. If you’re heading to work or are just away from your home for a few hours, make sure to keep your blinds and shades closed to keep any unnecessary heat out.

  3. Take advantage of fans. While fans don’t actually affect air temperature, they do circulate air and help make certain your home is feeling comfortable. However, ensure you turn fans off in rooms that aren’t being occupied since they don’t decrease the air temperature.

Even as it may seem like the warmest days in Louisville are ahead, Becht/Givens Service Experts is here to make sure that you can relax comfortably in your home. While AC repair can sometimes be tough to avoid, there are things you can do to keep cool as summer slowly begins to wind-down.
